TIMBERWOLVES TO PLAY FOUR GAMES AS A PART OF EMIRATES NBA CUP 2024

Minneapolis/St. Paul – The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team will play four Group Play games as part of the Emirates NBA Cup 2024, the second annual in-season competition.

The Timberwolves open Group A Play on the road against Anfernee Simons and the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 9:00 p.m. Minnesota will then visit Domantas Sabonis and the Sacramento Kings on Friday, Nov. 15 at 9:00 p.m. The Wolves home portion of Group A Play begins with Fred VanVleet and the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7:00 p.m. Minnesota wraps up Group Play with Kawhi Leonard and the LA Clippers when they visit Target Center on Friday, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.

The Emirates NBA Cup 2024 will tip off on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in NBA team markets and culminate with T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas hosting both of the Semifinals on Saturday, Dec. 14 and the Championship on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Like last season’s inaugural in-season tournament, the Emirates NBA Cup 2024 will have two stages: Group Play for all 30 NBA teams and the Knockout Rounds for the eight teams that advance out of Group Play (the three group winners and one wild card in each conference). The 22 teams that do not qualify for the Quarterfinals will each be assigned two regular-season games (one home game and one road game) that will be played on Thursday, Dec. 12 or Friday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 15 or Monday Dec. 16. The losing teams in the Quarterfinals in each conference will play each other in a regular-season game on Dec. 12, 13, 15 or 16.

In Group Play, all 30 teams have been randomly drawn into groups of five within their conference based on won-loss records from the 2023-24 regular season. Group Play games in the Emirates NBA Cup will take place on “Cup Nights” across four Tuesdays (Nov. 12, 19 and 26 and Dec. 3) and three Fridays (Nov. 15, 22 and 29), with each team playing one game against each of the four opponents in its group.

All Emirates NBA Cup games will count toward the regular-season standings except the Championship, which will sit outside the regular season. Each team will continue to play 82 regular-season games in the 2024-25 season, including those games that are part of Group Play and the Knockout Rounds.

The 14 Group Play games (two games on each Cup Night) and all seven Knockout Round games will be televised nationally.
